Top 3 walking trails
The Appalachian Trail (or A.T) on the East Coast of the US tops the charts.
It is the longest hiking-only trail in the world passing through 14 states over a distance of 2,200 miles. It is home to thousands of rare species of plants and animals and it is estimated that more than 2 million people hike along it each year!
Best for: Luscious nature and changing the scenery.
The Inca Trail to Matchu Picchu in Peru follows closely.
The Inca trail leads to the world-famous Machu Picchu (one of the 7 World’s Wonders) and is situated in the Andes mountain ranges. The trail has suffered from its success and for the past 15 years has been closely monitored by the Peruvian government. If you want to hike this trail, you will have to acquire a pass as only 200 hikers can access the trail every day; it’s also good to know that the Inca Trail is closed every February for an official clean-up.
Best for: Incredible historical sites.
The Annapurna Circuit in Nepal comes third.
The Annapurna circuit, long 145 miles sits high in the Annapurna mountains in Nepal. Unlike the Inca trail where guides are mandatory, you can attempt the Annapurna circuit solo or with a group but if you choose to go on your own this means you will have to sort everything out yourself (itinerary, accommodation, permits, etc…).
Best for: Mountaineers.
Despite the top 3 being far-flung destinations, five European trails have made it to the top 20, with 2 trails in France and the West Highland Way in Scotland placing 4th.

Methodology
To come up with the most Instagrammable walks and trails we collated a list of 50 of the world’s most renowned walking routes, using a variety of trusted travel sources and expert opinions. For each of these walks, we determined the most used Instagram hashtags and calculated how many times each hashtag had been used.
We then totalled the multiple hashtags for individual walks together to find the total sum of posts for that walk.
Finally, we ranked the walks according to their final total and selected the top 27 most popular walks.
