Team Travels: Tuscany

Two of our team members, Kyra from product and Florence from sales, recently drew the short straw and had to go to Tuscany to check out some of our luxury villas. They don’t know what they did to deserve it, but took their punishment gracefully and off they trotted to do their duty. Just kidding. We were obviously all green with envy watching them leave rainy old England. So when they got back we were hungry for a dose of vicarious sunshine and dolce vita. Florence filled us in…

Tell us where you’ve been…

We were based in the little village of San Quirico d’Orcia, which is right between Pisa, Siena and Florence, in the very heart of Tuscany. Montepulciano (nearby), and Siena are both part of the UNESCO World Heritage and understandably so. They’re so beautiful and full of history, you can just feel that special Italian atmosphere there. The amazing landscapes make you feel that you are in another world.

What was the highlight of the trip?

The highlight of the trip was the locals – they were all so friendly and authentic. And let’s admit it, Italian food is some of the best!

Tuscany

What and where was your best foodie moment?

I have to pick only three best foodie moments?!

The first was at the Trattoria al Vecchio Forno, in San Quirico d’Orcia. The food is absolutely delicious and you could not be in a more typical Tuscan restaurant. I loved it!

Fonte Alla Vena is this new cute little place in the village too, where you can enjoy Tuscan specialities like Panzanella, Acquacotta and Pici. Luciano, the owner, will spoil you and will make you feel very welcome in Tuscany!

Thirdly, we loved stuffing our faces at La Bottega Di Cacio, set in the charming town of Bagno Vignoni. They offered an impressive selection of every cheese and meat imaginable. It also (unsurprisingly) doubled up as the hottest hang out for the local cats!

Favourite property that you saw and why?

Villa Edoardo is a stunning and historic farmhouse complete with gorgeous pool, sweeping gardens and typically Tuscan views in every direction! Inside, its totally classic chic – like something out of a glossy magazine. Just bellissimo!

Any stand-out traditions or cultural observations made in the area where you stayed?

Definitely the hot springs! This part of Tuscany is very popular for that, there are plenty of them and you can go there for free! The springs at Bagno Vignoni are wonderful, where all the locals go.

For anyone travelling to Tuscany, what can’t they miss?

Do some day trips to Pisa, Siena, Florence or Roma, it’s such a special experience. There is so much history in all these cities that a day trip is probably not long enough but it’s perfect to get a great Italian feeling!

Tuscany

If that’s awakened your appetite for Tuscan food, piqued your interest to explore the most incredible towns and villages in Tuscany, or you’re just hankering for your own piece of paradise in a Tuscan villa – our concierge team can help!
