A Photographer’s Tour of St. Lucia

None of the Caribbean islands are exactly lacking in photogenic scenery, but with wonders including a ‘drive-in volcano’ and the famed Pitons, St. Lucia stands out as particularly picture-perfect. The brightly coloured buildings of Soufriere, the dark silver sand of Anse Cochon beach and the Vigie Lighthouse near Castries in the north all pop up regularly in tourist photo albums, but to make your holiday snaps extra-special, check out these Oliver’s Travels top three sights.

Marigot Bay

Brigand Hill

Staying at Brigand Hill puts you in an ideal spot to experience St. Lucia’s wildlife, located only a short distance away from Marigot Bay. In this sheltered enclave, tropical jungle stretches down to the shore, where white sails dot the blue water. Birdwatchers can easily spend hours here, waiting silently and patiently for unique local creatures to appear. Look out for the Antillean Crested Hummingbird, smallest of St. Lucia’s hummingbird species, which can often be seen feeding on flowers and entertaining visitors with songs from the branches of the vibrantly coloured Flamboyant Trees.

Tet Paul Nature Trail

La Petite Fleur des Pitons - St Lucia

The Pitons are the backdrop for many photographs in St Lucia, but dedicated photographers will want to get more of a close-up shot. Return to Soufriere in the southwest of the island and take the community-run Tet Paul Nature Trail to experience spectacular views across Petit Piton, Gros Piton and on clear days, the distant islands of St. Vincent and Martinique. On the way up, the lush trail is lined with trees bearing avocados and guava, as well as bizarre-looking spiky pineapple plants. Once you’ve conquered the mountain, you can wake up to its majestic silhouette outside your window every morning with a stay at La Petite Fleur, one of our rentals in the Caribbean that’s guaranteed to help you understand the magical appeal of these entrancing islands.
